Overview

Villa Saffron sits in the hills above Toscolano Maderno, surrounded by olive groves and mature gardens with wide views across Lake Garda.

Designed in the 1920s by Giancarlo Maroni, the architect behind the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the villa retains many of its original details while offering the comfort expected from a modern holiday home. Venetian flooring, period fireplaces and traditional architectural features sit alongside air conditioning, contemporary bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen.

The main living spaces are generous and full of character. There is a bright panoramic sitting room with a piano, a billiard room and a dining room with original Venetian flooring, giving the house several different places for the group to spend time together.

There are four double bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom. Two of the bedrooms also have private terraces with lake views. The villa sleeps eight guests comfortably, with two additional single beds available in the larger bedrooms when needed, taking maximum occupancy to ten.

Outside, the gardens make the most of the elevated position. Ancient olive trees, lawns and planted terraces surround the private swimming pool, while an outdoor heated Jacuzzi provides another place to relax with the lake below. There is also a gym, outdoor dining area and barbecue.

Location

Villa Saffron sits above Toscolano Maderno on Lake Garda’s western shore, around 3km from the town and lakefront.

The small hamlet of Gaino is within walking distance and has a traditional local restaurant, useful for an easy evening close to the villa. For everyday shopping, a wider choice of restaurants and access to the lake, Toscolano Maderno is a short drive away.

Toscolano Maderno also has regular ferry connections, including the car ferry across to the eastern shore, making this a useful base for exploring both sides of Lake Garda.

A car is needed for stays here. Private parking is available within the villa grounds.

Verona and Milan Bergamo airports are both a little over one hour away by car.

Villa Saffron sleeps eight guests in its four permanent double bedrooms. At maximum occupancy, two additional single beds are added to the larger bedrooms.

Air conditioning is available throughout the villa.

Pool heating can be arranged on request at an additional charge.

The outdoor heated Jacuzzi is not available during low season.

Fresh bread and croissants are delivered each morning, except Sundays during low and mid season.

A welcome selection is provided on arrival, including local wine, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh fruit, water and basic kitchen provisions.

For 7-night stays, midweek villa cleaning with a linen change is included.

Wi-Fi is available throughout.

Laundry facilities include a washing machine, iron and ironing board.

A cot and highchair can be provided on request.

Up to 2 pets are accepted, subject to an additional cleaning charge and additional pet security deposit.
